8 September, 2007 (01:55) | Social Media | By: Kieran

Tom Drapeau, Director of Netscape Publishing, announced on the Netscape blog that there are some big changes coming to Netscape.com, mainly the removal of the social media news aspect of their portal. DIGG says what? Netscape.com is abandoning their social media experiment based on “user feedback” and going to a more traditional news experiences, Netscape users “associate the Netscape brand with providing mainstream news is is editorially controlled”. But of course Tom was was quick to point out that social news site isn’t going away for good and a new site will be rolling out in the near future.

So why is this important? Well for one it shows that throwing up some “bookmark this” tags around the net will not guarantee you exponential traffic growth. Not everyone can be a DIGG, Reddit, StumbleUpon…
